There is no turning back now. If I did not do it today, I might regret it tomorrow.
Achieving fit and healthy body should be one of our top priorities. Ideally, there should be no room for being weak and sickly especially if you’re looking after the welfare of your family.
It was last July 27 when my journey to a healthy lifestyle officially begun.
We had checkups at Medicard Philippines Lifestyle Center in Makati City. After 12 hours of fasting, I had my blood tested for sugar and cholesterol levels. Apparently, the result below showed that I am still at the normal level but I am worried about my HDL.
This how Wikipedia define the blood tests:
Glucose is a common medical analyte measured in blood samples. Higher than usual glucose levels may be a sign of prediabetes or diabetes mellitus.
Although cholesterol is important and necessary for human health, high levels of cholesterol in the blood have been linked to damage to arteries and cardiovascular disease.
Triglycerides are a mechanism for storing unused calories, and their high concentration in blood correlates with the consumption of starchy and other high carbohydrate foods.
HDL is sometimes called good cholesterol.
LDL are often informally called the bad cholesterol.
VLDL transports endogenous triglycerides, phospholipids, cholesterol, and cholesteryl esters. It functions as the body’s internal transport mechanism for lipids.
I have also met with Medicard in-house nutritionist, Diana Lodriguito, who checked my body mass index (BMI), and discussed with me the target pounds I need to loose through the diet she suggested and of course, exercise!
Based on her nutrition assessment, I am obese with BMI result of 27.4. Currently, I weighted 70.3 kilos with waistline of 38 inches! At age of 33, my ideal body weight should be at 48.3 to 59 kilos. BMI is a measure of your body composition so that you know if you have a healthy weight based on your height. It is calculated by taking your weight divided by your height squared. The higher the resulting number is the more overweight you are.
But Lodriguito said I need not to hurry on weight loss. By August 26, 2012, she said I should lost one to two kilos or achieved at least 69 kilos or 152 lbs. Also, I must target at least 31 inches waistline! This is sooo challenging!
The threadmill stress test was the last part of the screening. If before I could reached 6 out of 7 stages, I only achieved Stage 2 this time which only proved that my weight gain and sedentary lifestyle are pulling me down and sending me to health risks.
Lose More. Live More.
Healthy diet is a must. As we grow old, our metabolism gets slower so we need food that are high in fiber to flush out body toxins or bad cholesterol and excess fats.
I am trying to be consistent with eating one fourth cup of rice every lunch and no rice but crackers only on breakfast and dinner. Always served with veggies, sometimes with fish, chicken and beef but no pork meat at all. Fruits, nuts, two slices of tasty bread with cheese during snack time. I do not starve myself. I eat more than thrice a day but with care and control. Goodbye fast food chains unless you offer veggie or healthy menus!
Along with my diet plan is a fiber supplement by C-lium. Every sachet of C-lium Fiber Husk contains 5 grams of fiber. Once a day, ideally on breakfast, is enough although there’s an average amount of fiber that a person need to intake daily, depending on age and gender.
Of course, what’s the use of the diet plan if one will not EXERCISE? I was advice to take brisk walking at least 30 minutes a day. If I still have window to exercise more, I could do simple cardio work-out, upper and lower body strengthening and the upper and lower body exercises.
